Signature Hole – My choice of signature hole is the shortish-308-meter par 4 7th.

A risk and reward hole tempting the long-hitters to attack the green from the tee.

Water lurks on the left side and a creek crosses in front of the 2-tiered green.

Have a go!

A walkable course where Crooked Creek meanders through the course.

It is a solid track that will excite the strategic golfer as the round progresses.

The huge undulating green complexes and fantastic bunkering throughout the course are features.

The front 9 is hilly but open.

Back 9 plays through densely wooded areas where the creek lurks to destroy the card.

Risk and reward holes abound, but the penal native grass lining the fairways calls for accuracy.

Signature Hole – The long 232-meter par 3 is my choice of signature hole.

It plays from an elevated tee to a large green protected by a deep bunker left and another on the right.

A fairway-corridor on the right allows for a running approach into the green.

Ozarks hosts 76 holes of diverse holes for all skill levels to play and enjoy.

The National Course is laid out on ridges that surround the area offering stunning views.

It plays fast and firm offering a choice of aerial or ground-running approach shots.

A challenging layout that encourages creative, manufactured shots to keep a good card.

Being adventurous throughout play brings in the fun element.

Be different!

Shape Rating: 94.4

Signature Hole – My choice of signature hole is the 180-meter par 3 4th off the tips.

A forced carry-over water that protects the front and right side of the green.

Another greenside front bunker adds to the difficulty.

Playing to the back right pin placement is an exciting but dangerous shot.

Northwood Hills West course is a golden-oldie design.

Steeped in tradition this track offers a fun but challenging outing.

The tree-lined, undulating, rolling fairways require accuracy from the tee.

Strategically-placed bunkers, a meandering stream, uphill and downhill shots, OB, and highly contoured greens set the scene for an enjoyable round.

The tiered green complexes require accuracy and distance control to avoid the dreaded 3-putt!

4. Buffalo Ridge Springs Course

Signature Hole – The 224-meter par 3 7th is my choice of signature hole.

An intimidating par 3 that requires an accurate tee-shot into the green.

Miss the green long and right and the water hazard catches the ball.

Anywhere left leaves a tough up-and-down.

Scary!

A tremendous golfing experience awaits a round on this layout.

Free-ranging bison can be seen around the track and the natural grasses are penal.

Creeks, lakes, waterfalls, rock formations, undulating and sloping fairways create the challenge.

Risk and reward holes aplenty doglegs both ways and false fronts at some greens keep the pressure on.

A great track to test any skill level.

5. Glen Echo Country Club | Glen Echo

Signature Hole – The 318-meter par 4 13th is my choice of signature hole.

A risk and reward drivable par 4 with 2 bunkers protecting the green on the right.

Just hit it straight and reap the reward of a birdie!

This historic course is laid out in a wooded area, and the gently undulating fairways are generous, but misdirected shots are penalized.

The holes are framed by tall trees and accuracy and strategy will keep your score going.

A tough, but fair track that can be enjoyed by all skill levels, and why not play the first 18-hole course ever built in Saint Louis?

6. The Club at Porto Cima | Porto Cima

Signature Hole – My signature hole is the 499-meter par 5 15th which plays downhill and the fairway snakes towards the peninsula green.

The green complex juts out into the Lake.

Take time to look back at this stunning hole from the green.

A Jack Nicklaus design that weaves through dense oak forest and the fairways rise and fall over the gentle terrain.

The back 9 uses the Lake extensively over 7 of the holes and accuracy off the tee is required.

The tree-lined fairway landing areas are fairly generous, but driver is not the call all the time.

7. Forest Hills Country Club

  • Site Link
  • Location: Chesterfield, Missouri.

4 tee options available.

Signature Hole – The 374-meter par 4 9th is my choice of signature hole, although many other holes could hold the accolade.

An uphill par 4 that requires a well-placed tee shot to avoid the fairway bunkers.

The uphill approach to a raised green guarded by deep bunkers is challenging.

It is not regarded as the toughest hole on the course for nothing!

Forest Hills is a parkland layout and the gently rolling terrain offers lush fairways, protected by strategically placed bunkers, hazards, and trees throughout.

The undulating greens are well protected and accuracy and shot-making are well rewarded.

A thinking golfer’s delight as the risk and reward holes can make or break the round.

8. Osage National Golf Club | Mountain/ Links

  • Site Link
  • Location: Lake Ozark, Missouri.
  • Par: 72
  • Length: 6,459 meters off the Tips and 5,261 meters off the Front.

PLAYER RATING

Overall Rating: 93.8
Fun Rating: 94.4
Shape Rating: 93.1

4  tee options available.

Signature Hole – The course has 2 signature holes on the Mountain 9.

Both are dogleg par 4s of 365-meters, hole 3, and 421-meters, hole 8.

Accurate tee shots to tight tree-lined fairways are required to play them well.

This combination is a real test of golf and the experience unforgettable.

Mountain 9 has tight tree-lined fairways and huge elevation changes, with majestic scenery.

The large flowing greens are testing and expect to play a few blind shots.

The Links 9 is a lot flatter but a unique feature is the fairway cut stops a few meters before the green collar, demanding an aerial approach.

Plenty of mounds and 19 bunkers await the golfer on this 9 and water comes into play on 6 of the holes.

9. Creekmoor Golf Club

Signature Hole – The architect believes the 155-meter par 3 7th is the signature hole.

Played to a green that sits on the main body of the Lake, it also has added protection with bunkers front and rear.

Play long!

Creekmoor course is a daunting challenge but playing from the correct tee, can be an enjoyable and unforgettable experience.

A few monster holes lurk in the layout and the prevailing wind only increases the difficulty.

Accomplished golfers will thrive on the challenge.

The greens are testing requiring precision approach shots or face 3 or 4 putts.

10. The Club at Old Kinderhook

Signature Hole – The 472-meter par 5 18th is my choice of signature hole.

It is rated as the best and most memorable on the course.

A lake and trees on the left and a deep bunker on the right protect the landing area off the tee.

The lake comes into play on the 2nd and 3rd shot and a risk and reward decision must be taken.

The green is surrounded by water and bunkers lurk for the layup 2nd.

What a way to finish the round.

Set in the beautiful Lake of Ozarks valleys, this public course is a must-play.

Elevation changes, hills, waterfalls, trees, water hazards with magnificent views from every hole, can it get better?

A course that will test every club and shot in your bag.
