How Long Do Golf Carts Last? (And How To Get More Years Out Of Your Cart)

Golf carts are a big investment and can range anywhere from $4,000 to $15,000, so you have to know exactly what you are getting and what you can expect out of them.

The biggest players in the golf cart industry have claimed that a golf cart could last about 30 years, but that is with a few asterisks next to it and I will cover those in this post.

If you know nothing about golf carts, don’t think that you won’t have a lot of maintenance and work done to get to those 20, 30, or 40-year ranges.  To even get 10 years out of a golf cart, you can’t neglect it and avoid proper maintenance.

Keep in mind that there is no concrete evidence that people guarantee 30 years, 20 years, or even 10 years.  Some people would only say that a golf cart will last 10 years.  It all depends on how much you use it and how well you maintain it.  The estimates for how long it will last is based on the actual golf cart frame.

How do you maintain carts to last a long time?  Well, I will go over that in some detail below.

How Do You Make An Electric Golf Cart Last Longer?

The first factor that decides the lifetime of an electric golf cart is based on the number of miles that you put on the cart.  If you run it sparingly and take care of it, it will obviously last longer in almost every instance.

The hours of use and mileage greatly affect long-term performance.

Another thing to expect with electric golf carts is that you are going to need to purchase and install a new battery almost every 5 years.  Sometimes you can get many more years out of a battery if you take care of the cart and do not run it too much.

The fact that batteries can be costly makes most electric golf cart customers just buy a new golf cart after the battery is replaced once or twice.  It all just depends on your own judgment in this area.  Other costs that need to be figured in are tires if you put a lot of miles on the cart.

To keep the frame lasting longer, you should clean it regularly and keeping it out of harsh conditions like extremely cold weather.

How Do You Make A Gas Golf Cart Last Longer?

The lifetime of electric and gas golf carts is primarily the same, but they both have totally different maintenance on the inside.  However, tires and cart frame require the same methods of maintenance and preservation.

There needs to be regular oil changes based on what your manufacturer recommends a year or based on how many miles you put on the cart.

An engine would probably not last as long as the car frame does, so that is a major expense to worry about if you are planning on keeping the golf cart for many years.

There are no concrete numbers about how long an engine will last because there are so many factors that go into the longevity of a golf cart engine.

The longevity of your golf cart greatly depends on your ability to take care of it whether you have a gas or electric golf cart.  So, do your best to maintain the cart and it should treat you nicely!

How to Maintain a Golf Cart?

There are several ways to make your golf cart last longer.  The best ways are:

  • Keep batteries charged regularly and cleaned.
  • Keep tires filled.
  • Always look out for oil leaks.
  • Check out the brakes and make sure they are well-maintained.
  • Have the cart serviced regularly.
  • Get any issues or suspected problems checked out by a professional.

Those are just some of the main ways that you can make your golf cart last.  Treating it correctly can really improve the lifespan of your vehicle and make you a happy customer.

Do Certain Brands of Golf Carts Last Longer?

While some companies claim that their golf carts last longer, there really is not a definitive answer.  Some companies out there do last longer on average, but there are no facts to back up a clear winner in that category.

Do your research for one of the top brands and then be sure to take care of it, and you will be happy with how long the golf cart lasts!
