Conners lost his lead during his round due to errors in the middle. On the par-3 16th, his seventh hole, he had a four-putt, with three tries within 4 feet. Additionally, his tee shot on the 17th veered into the brush, resulting in an unplayable lie and, ultimately a bogey.
“A little mindless,” Conners said. “That was an unfortunate blemish on the scorecard. Certainly would like to have that over. But that’s how it goes.”
The Valero Texas Open is the final event before the Masters Tournament, and a number of players used the tournament as a tune-up for Augusta National. Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, and Rory McIlroy are among those in the field.
The Valero Texas Open continues through Sunday, April 3.
